What does this mean for EDS moving forward?
EDS is currently engaged in a 12-month strategic planning process to explore new models for theological education. We are excited to facilitate listening sessions and provide opportunities for stakeholders to actively shape the future of EDS. Alongside the strategic planning process, we will focus on offering innovative and outward-focused theological education programs that integrate faith and social justice. These programs and offerings will expand as EDS seeks to broaden the reach of theological education. The EDS board approved an initial Mission and Core Values at its meeting on February 2024.

Will Dean Douglas continue her leadership position at EDS?
During the one-year transition period, Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas will continue to serve as EDS' Interim President. This period will allow EDS to establish a longer-term leadership structure in light of the strategic plan.

I’m an EDS alum. How can I learn more about the upcoming listening sessions?

Where will EDS be physically located?
EDS has secured a one-year lease with St. John the Divine Cathedral. This relocation to St. John the Divine will greatly benefit individuals seeking to engage with EDS operations, as it provides a central office to coordinate programs and services. Read the press release announcing the location.

I’m an EDS alum. How can I obtain my transcripts?
EDS alum who graduated before 2017 can obtain their transcripts here. EDS alums who graduated from EDS at Union (2017-2023) can obtain their transcripts here. If you have any questions or encounter difficulties regarding the retrieval of your transcript, please reach out to [email protected].

Will EDS be an independent school or seek affiliation with an existing institution?
EDS is now an independent venture, actively discerning the best path to fulfill its mission. As part of the 12-month strategic planning process, EDS is exploring multiple models for theological education. We are excited to facilitate listening sessions and provide opportunities for stakeholders to actively shape the future of EDS.

What is the status of EDS’ endowment?
EDS is in a strong financial position to live out its mission in the Episcopal Church. As of July 31, 2023, EDS’ endowment had an estimated value of $74.9 million.
