The Rev. Gay Jennings ’77 Elected President of the House of Deputies

The Rev. Gay Jennings

The Rev. Gay Jennings ’77 was elected president of the House of Deputies during the 77th General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Indianapolis on July 10, 2012. After receiving her Master of Divinity from Episcopal Divinity School, Jennings served in various parishes and committees of the Diocese of Ohio and the Episcopal Church and was an eight-time deputy to General Convention. Most recently, she was the associate director of the CREDO Institute, which provides opportunities for bishops, deacons, priests, and lay employees a holistic approach to health and wellness.

In her first press conference as president, Jennings said that she was honored and “grateful to all the people across the church.” Her mission as president is “to change the way we do business in the next triennium” to move the Episcopal Church forward in the twenty-first century.

In addition, EDS adjunct faculty member and honorary degree recipient, Byron Rushing, was elected as vice president of the House of Deputies, adjunct faculty member The Rev. Canon Mally Lloyd was elected to the nominating committee for Presiding Bishop, and Professor Fredrica Harris Thompsett was elected to the Executive Committee of the Episcopal Church.
