The Rev. Mary Wetzel ’06 to Receive Suzanne Hiatt Award at 2015 Alumni/ae Days

­Church is a little different for EDS alumna the Rev. Mary Wetzel (MDiv ’06), vicar of the Church of the Common Ground in Atlanta. Her parish has no wooden pews, stained glass windows, or even four walls and a foundation. Their “church bell” is a gong. Wetzel and her parishioners congregate for service in Woodruff Park, in the city’s downtown area.

What did you do for your Field Education unit?

This year I am doing my Field Education unit at the New England Church of South India. This is a small community that travels from all over New England to meet once a month in rented space. One of my biggest draws to working in this community was being able to work in a space that would expand my own knowledge and cultural literacy.

EDS alumna Milly Morrow (MDiv ’10) is always searching for opportunities to develop her young parishioners as Christians. When the chance came to take them to Selma, Alabama for the 50th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery marches of the civil rights movement, she knew she could not pass it up.

Episcopal Divinity School Announces New Scholarship Initiative

Cambridge, MA (February 18, 2015)—Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) has announced that it will offer twenty additional student scholarships in the 2015–16 academic year. Of the twenty scholarships, ten will be full tuition scholarships for master’s degree candidates, five of which will be awarded to students of color. The remaining scholarships will be first year scholarships with a school commitment to meet all financial need through financial aid in subsequent years.

Dr. Kwok Pui Lan, William F. Cole Professor of Christian Theology and Spirituality at Episcopal Divinity School, was announced as one of two recipients of the Gutenberg Research Award for 2015. The Gutenberg Research College of the Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) of Mainz, Germany, awards the Gutenberg Research Award annually. Daniels Fellowship Recipient Reflects on His Work and Ministry

When Mousin (pictured left) received the Jonathan Daniels Fellowship to establish the Midwest Immigrant Rights Center, he was able to combine all three talents to work for justice in the immigration system.

I write to tell you that I have informed EDS's board of trustees of my intent not to request a renewal of my contract when it expires at the end of June 2015. Further, I have asked them, if possible, to expedite the process of naming a successor so that I may explore new opportunities. Of course I will do everything I can to insure a smooth transition.
