Alum Spotlight: Bishop Robert Griffin, DMin '06

Bishop Robert Griffin '06, DMin is a native of Troy, Alabama, the son of a sharecropper and the last of 14 children.

Bishop Griffin, licensed a Baptist minister and ordained in the Metropolitan Community Churches with standing in the International Council of Community Churches, is an Auxiliary Bishop of the Global Justice Institute with ministry focusing on LGBTQI+ Laws & Public Policy on HIV/AIDS and is the liaison to Belize, Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Africa.

Bishop Griffin is also the Executive Minister of the Sunshine Cathedral, Fort Lauderdale, FL., where his husband, Bishop Durrell Watkins '06, DMin is the Senior Minister. They have shared a ministry at the Sunshine Cathedral going on 20 years. They are both EDS alums.

Robert is a graduate of both the Episcopal Divinity School and Florida Center for Theological Studies and is a former Trustee of EDS and a former governing board member for MCC.

Robert was honored in 2006 with the Otis Charles Preaching Prize (EDS).
