+ Distributive Learning Options at EDS

Recognizing that many potential seminary students are working professionals, Episcopal Divinity School has developed a distributive learning option for people interested in pursuing a master of divinity, master of arts in theological studies, or doctor of ministry degree that does not require them to give up their current obligations or relocate to EDS' Cambridge campus. Students take courses while in residence at EDS for four weeks (two weeks in June and two weeks in January each year for five years) with the remainder of their course work done online during the fall and spring of each year.

The distributive learning format allows students to pursue their education through a rigorous program of intensive courses and supplemental distance learning. The curriculum for distributive learning students includes online versions of existing EDS courses, intensive courses offered during the January and June terms, and adaptations of EDS' required foundations and program conference courses. During the required two-week intensive sessions in January and June, students are immersed in the life of the seminary, participating in small-group formation, and becoming part of the EDS community.

Ministerial formation is an intentional focus of all EDS programs of study. In developing the distributive learning option, EDS is breaking new ground in the use of technology as a tool to compliment the traditional, campus based methods of formation and discernment.

For more information on all of our programs please contact the EDS Admissions Director at 617.682.1507 or admissions@eds.edu.
