EDS President and Dean Katherine Hancock Ragsdale to Step Down

Dear Friends:

I write to tell you that I have informed EDS's board of trustees of my intent not to request a renewal of my contract when it expires at the end of June 2015. Further, I have asked them, if possible, to expedite the process of naming a successor so that I may explore new opportunities. Of course I will do everything I can to insure a smooth transition.

EDS Mourns the Death of Former Bishop of Massachusetts and Episcopal Divinity School Trustee The Rt. Rev. Thomas Shaw

Retired Bishop of the Diocese of Massachusetts The Rt. Rev. Thomas Shaw died on Friday, October 17, 2014, after a long illness. Bishop Shaw was a longtime friend and trustee of Episcopal Divinity School, joining the school's board in 2008. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Massachusetts from 1994 until September 13, 2014, when The Rt. Rev. Alan M. Gates '87 was consecrated.

On October 2 and 3, the EDS community gathered to honor the 40th anniversary of women's ordination to the priesthood at the 2014 Dewey-Heyward Lectures and EDS Women's Leadership Forum. Among the special guests for those two events were five of the Philadelphia Eleven, and The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church. Dr. Gale Yee Co-Edits Upcoming Bible Commentary; EDS Professors Contribute Chapters

Fortress Press announced the upcoming publication of Fortress Commentary on the Bible, a two volume set synthesizing current scholarship on every book of the Bible. Dr. Gale A. Yee, Nancy W. King Professor of Biblical Studies at EDS, was volume editor for the Old Testament and Apocrypha volume, along with Hugh R. Page, Jr. (the University of Notre Dame), and Matthew J. M. Coomber (St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa).
