EDS Board of Trustees Chair's Statment on the Appointment of Interim President and Dean

The following is the letter by Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) Board of Trustees Chair the Very Rev. James Kowalski announcing the appointment of the Rev. Francis Fornaro as Interim President and Dean of EDS.

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni/ae,

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that the Rev. Francis Fornaro has been named Interim President and Dean of Episcopal Divinity School. The Rev. Fornaro brings nearly two decades of experience as an ordained leader in the church, including serving as adjunct faculty member at EDS and as a former member of the CREDO faculty, where he provided spiritual guidance and support for clergy from diverse parishes across the country. Frank  Fornaro's first career was as a teacher and administrator in the Boston Public Schools. He has a BS in Education, an MEd in Administration and Organization, and an MDiv with concentration in Pastoral Theology.

Please join me in welcoming the Rev. Fornaro in this new role, and offering our prayers for his leadership as we successfully pursue the mission of EDS during a period of transition. We are deeply grateful as we take these next steps, confident that we will continue to be enlivened by theologies of liberation and live up to our role as a respected and progressive center for study and spiritual formation for lay and ordained leaders.

The Rev. Fornaro begins his appointment immediately. Today many in the community were informed of this appointment by Trustee Warren Radke at the noon Eucharist, and we look forward to introductions with the entire EDS community in the coming days.

I will update you on other trustee matters in a separate correspondence, including a fuller update on our recent board meeting. Today we offer our prayers and goodwill to our new Interim President and Dean as together we chart an ambitious course toward justice.

The Very Reverend Dr. James A. Kowalski, Dean
