EDS alumna honors Florence Li Tim-Oi at Episcopal Church Center

EDS alumna, the Rev. Ada Wong-Nagata, preached the following homily at the Episcopal Church Center on January 24th, the Feast Day of Florence Li Tim-Oi. Florence Li Tim-Oi is recognized as being the first woman ordained a priest in the Anglican Communion. In the homily, Rev. Nagata noted that Li Tim-Oi “suffered from the ‘Purple Guards’ who decried her orders. She suffered from the ‘Red Guards’ who made her cut up her vestments with scissors'...

As we begin a bright and promising 2018, I want to share with you what I’m most looking forward to as Dean of Episcopal Divinity School at Union.

EDS@Union Joins Poor People's Campaign

The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, led by Rev. William J. Barber II and Rev. Liz Theoharis, is a modern movement geared to uniting people across the country to challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation’s distorted morality. The Episcopal Divinity School@Union proudly joins this movement to transform the political, economic and moral structures of our country.

Remembering Dean Guthrie: A Letter from Dean Douglas

Dear EDS Community:

It is with sadness that I share the news of the passing of the Rev. Dr. Harvey Guthrie, Jr. Dean Guthrie was admired and respected by so many in the Episcopal Divinity School family, including myself, and I am indebted to him for the legacy he has left.

The Rev. Dr. Harvey Guthrie, Jr.: 1924-2017

The Rev. Dr. Harvey Guthrie, Jr., dean of Episcopal Theology School from 1969 to 1974 and dean of Episcopal Divinity School from 1974 to 1985, died on December 17 in Oxnard, California, where he had been recovering from hip surgery. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.

Task Force seeks “fullest possible participation” of alumni/ae in @EDS@Union

The board of trustees has appointed a task force to make recommendations on how the alumni/ae of Episcopal Divinity School and its predecessors can participate fully in the life of the seminary as it begins its affiliation with Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

EDS@Union now accepting applications for 2018-19

Visionary and transformative theological education, grounded in the love and justice of God, is more important than ever in developing leadership that builds thriving and effective church ministries. Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary (EDS@Union) is a place that will develop and nurture such leaders, with a focus on theological education, spiritual formation and community transformation. Here, students will carry forth the EDS mission of dismantling racism and working for social justice.

I write to you on the eve of Thanksgiving, with a reflective and grateful spirit. At this time of year, many often look back over their year with gratitude for family, friends, and life events. And I am no different.
