Celebration of the Life of Jonathan M. Daniels
Contact
Jonathan Myrick Daniels (March 20, 1939 - August 20, 1965) was a 26-year old volunteer civil rights worker and seminarian at Episcopal Divinity School (then Episcopal Theological School) in the summer of 1965 when he was shot and killed by a deputy sheriff in Hayneville, Alabama. Jon’s last act was to thrust Ruby Sales, a young Black woman, out of the path of gunfire that took his life and seriously wounded another civil rights worker. Ms. Sales went on to receive her MDiv from EDS in 1998. Jonathan, a martyr in the Episcopal church, has a Fellowship and Lectureship named in his memory at EDS.
The Rev. Roger Nelson, and the Rev. Dr. Christopher Duraisingh, classmates of Jonathan's will preach and preside at the service. You are invited to gather after the service for conversation in the Washburn Lounge. Pick up lunch in the Brattle Café and join in.
