Jonathan Myrick Daniels (March 20, 1939 - August 20, 1965) was a 26-year old volunteer civil rights worker and seminarian at Episcopal Divinity School (then Episcopal Theological School) in the summer of 1965 when he was shot and killed by a deputy sheriff in Hayneville, Alabama. Jon’s last act was to thrust Ruby Sales, a young Black woman, out of the path of gunfire that took his life and seriously wounded another civil rights worker. Ms. Sales went on to receive her MDiv from EDS in 1998.
